: What are some important ballet exercises to practice daily?
I recently started Ballet (I’m fifteen, late I know but I don’t want to be a prima ballerina :D)
I’m just wondering what are some important exercises that should be practiced daily that will help me become a better dancer?
What are those exercises that ballet dancers learn at a young age and are fundamental to ballet? Plies, Barre work and so on?
Thank you!

Only the basic ones you were taught in class.
Yes, definitely lots of barre work.
Like, tendus, deggages, plies, ronde de jambe en l’air and a’ terre.
I’d also practice turning. Like your pirouettes and your chaines. You can do them around the house. Turn to the bathroom! Turn to your bedroom! Turn to the kitchen! Remember to use your spot!
Hope this helps!

I have been dancing for about 10 years now and I still only allow myself to do stretches, and possibly simple barre work, at home. This is because if you practice things at home a lot, you can be doing the correct steps but the technique could be wrong. If you’ve been doing something slightly wrong in the step then your teacher will try to fix it but it will be harder because you practiced it like that in your house and now it’s starting to become muscle memory. Also if the technique isn’t right, there is a great risk of injuring yourself!
Go ahead and do stretches like your left and right splits, middle split, frog stretch, and so on. Ask your dance teacher what you can safely practice in your home.
Some things that dancers learn earlier on in life, are just basic barre work, some stretches, the 5 positions, and of course a few little dance steps that they can make a recital dance out of.
I hope this helps, and good luck with your dancing!
