oliviaface: If i start ballet at the age of 13, how long will it take me to be on pointe?
Im 13, turning 14 this year.
I heard that pointe takes about 3 years of ballet training.
I have had no ballet training before.
I am flexible, my cousin has done ballet for 3 years and shes been teaching me basics.
Which i’ve learnt.
How long will it take me to dance on pointe?
And how many hours a week would i need?

I did ballet for seven years before getting on pointe. It definitely takes time and dedication.
Please note that pointe is a beautiful art, but it is painful and causes so much stress on your feet. Through experience, I recommend you not do it. If someone made a pro/con list on pointe dancing, there would be over double cons…maybe more.
It takes alot of time to go en pointe. As you said, probably about 3-4 years of ballet training and exercises. You’d need at least 3 ballet classes a week.Answer by abilena13
Try to work really hard and take as many classes a week as you can, if you are dedicated and work hard, you will be en pointe soon.
Good luck!Answer by Anna Íris
I was in ballet for 8 years before I started pointe but a friend does it elsewhere and she was en pointe after six months. we started pointe at the same time but I started doing ballet very young, whereas she came in when she was 14Answer by S.xxx
I agree with everyone else, you need a good 3/4 possibly 5 years to build up the strength in your feet and ankles to be able to hold yourself properly on pointe.
If your really dedicated, it’s useful to do some leg, ankle and feet strengthening exercises, im sure you can find some if you google it.
Answer by 🙂It depends….do you want to go professional or do you just want it to be recreational: just a simple ballet class with a few recitals? I’m 15 and I just started ballet 2-3 months ago and am on pointe already! This was also my first time in any type dance, my friend that had taken ballet for a few years showed me the basics too such as all the positions and just a few things that she learned in class. I only go to ballet every Tuesday. In the end its going to depend on your dance teacher and what she thinks is best, so im sorry if my answer doesn’t apply to your situation. All in all you should just go and find a place to sign up( possibly where your cousin goes) and then you can get a direct answer 🙂
GOOD LUCK!!!
