Chelsea ╬ Morgan: How would my bellybutton piercing affect me doing cheerleading?
Okay, so i tried out for the cheerleading team this year and i made it. Practice dosn’t start until this summer, and in the handbook is plainly says no bellybutton rings. Im 13, and my mom has agreed to let me get it done this summer. I know a girl in highschool who made the team an has her bellybutton pierced already soo.. Yeah. How would my piercing affect my sport?

does she show off her bellybutton ring during cheerleading? you can do it if your coach never sees it i guess
If the handbook says no, I would take it out before practice and any events.Answer by tbbfan001
Sports don’t allow jewelry to be worn. Plain and simple. Would you wear earrings while doing gymnastics? Trust me on this when it’s just a thing againgst jewelry. They’re also starting to ban watches from sports.Answer by Ann P
It could affect you during practice or performance, when you are jumping and running around. It could cling to someone’s uniform and rip off…I wouldn’t want that happening to me! I think it’s not because of looks, but for safety reasons.Answer by Cannon1334
it wont affect you doing cheerleading. there is 4 girls on my team who have there belly button pierced. you just have to remove the piercing when you do cheerling. if you cant take it out yet then you can get sports tape or any tape that will stick to your skin and wont fall of your skin. so than the piercing doesnt get pulled or ripped by anything.Answer by lynx131313
It will not effect your sport, but your sport may effect it and it’s healing. The more movement in the area the longer it will take to heal, not to mention if it gets caught on something it could tear or trigger rejection in the piercing.
More importantly no reputable piercer will pierce the navel of anyone under the age of 16. The torso on women isn’t done growing until the age of 16 and if the navel is pierced before the torso is done growing the piercing may migrate making it appear crooked even when it was initially pierced straight. Also when pierced to early the piercing can reject as the skin stretches with your growth or partial rejection leaving the piercing barely holding on by a thin layer of skin making it easily torn out when it gets caught on your covers while you sleep.
Just wait til you are 16, it is safer and healthier, in addition you should get it pierced in the fall so you don’t have to go without swimming all summer…no swimming for 6 months with a new navel piercing.
