Marriage with an immediate family member can produce birth defects for the children; gay marriage does not do this.

Why is this so complicated for so many people?

100 years ago the idea of gay marriage was as disgusting to ALL as you afore mentioned, but you cant open the door just a crack to let one subgroup in without the others beginning to fight for their “right”

Actually you are wrong. Inbreeding does not produce birth defects. There is no evidence of this. Proof? Look at every royal family in history, from the Egyptians to the Romans to the British Royal Family. During those times it was normal for royal family members to marry each other to keep the bloodline pure.

A woman over 40 is more likely to birth a child with down syndrome than a sister who sleeps with her brother. And historically you can make a better case for incest marriage because it was actually practiced and accepted. Notice how civilized we’ve become since medieval Europe.

Another case of the slippery slope? The man from Sister Wives is suing the state of Utah for his right to marry as many women as he wants. He wants his marriages with all the other women to be legal and valid.

In some coma patients, they indicate answers to questions by blinking once for yes and twice for no. Since household pets are considered to be members of many families, I cannot see why this same form of expression could not be recognized as a form of consent involving pets who love their owners.

Well, technically they argue that allowing some people to do something will unleash a torrent of unreasonable wants (like a crack will lead to a huge hole in a dam).
Children cannot consent to marriage, mostly because by law you cannot sleep with them (and sex is a big part of a marriage, but not everything).
Corpses are not living things, and eventually it would be disposed of for health reasons.
Incest doesn’t necessarily cause birth defects, but it increases the likelihood of passing genetic disorders to children. That is why the royal family of England had hemophilia for so long. That is also why children from incest tend to have defects more than “normal” children. But you’re right. Gay marriage doesn’t hurt anyone; as long as it is consensual and between two HUMANS, then it is fine.

Good point, the basis of marriage should be that it should be left up to the individual/church they wish to affiliate. Why is marriage a government union? shouldn’t it be a personal union? Also, i think the basis of who can marry who should be consenting adults.
