You can just make 1/2 to .5 to make it easier for you.
Then…
.5x – 4 = -1 + 2x –> -3 = 1.5x –> Divide both sides by 1.5 and you get -2.
Answer by wha1/2x-4=-1+2x
2(1/2x-4=-1+2x) ( multiple everything through by 2 to get rip of the faction .)
1x-8=-2+4x ( you want to combine the like term like 1x and 4x. )
-8=-2+3x ( add 2 to both side )
-6=3x (divide 3 to both side )
-2=x ( and you get x )
Answer by Good guyHi
You can also multiply all by 2, so that you cancel the fraction
x – 8 = -2 + 4x
x – 4x = -2 + 8
-3x = 6
x = -2
Hope it helped !
Bye !!!
Answer by irina1/2x-4=-1+2x => 1 – 8x = -2x + 4x^2 => 4x^2 + 6x – 1 = 0 => x = (36 + 4)/8 = 5 or (36 – 4)/8 = 4
