avoiding fraud by not “simply” not buying from China is garbage. ther will always be scammers online, no matter on which trading platform.
In order to avoid beeing frauded you should pay very close attention to the payment terms.
Most of the times for small orders people will demand 100% payment.— REFUSE
Serious businesses are increasinlgy accepting secure payment means. You can pay by electronic bank transhfer (payment can be undone).
You can also ask for other payment tearms such as TT (30% down payment before production and 70% upon receipt of shipping documents.
The safest way is LLC but it takes a lot of time and some money to set up. –Safest but hardest. Many companies wont accept unless you buy large quantities.
I would suggest you research the factory that is offering the items.
.does their email look legit (gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc are NOT legit business emails.
Response time. does the seller spend more time on pushing you to pay then asking for details. If you are buying things from large factories then there will be many questions that need to be cleared.
Demand a phonenumber where you can reach them. Many scammers have a phone just for that but it gives you a better idea.
Unfortunatly scamming is becomming increasingly common.
Avoiding the biggest exporting country does not make you bullet proof.
There wil always be risks.
Btw : try to buy from legit websites only (alibaba for an example.
Answer by TheoI recommend working with a reputable trading company. There are many China trading companies in the United States.
Certain industries in China are subject to more fraud than others, like electrical devices and components. But most often bad deals happen when Chinese factories and trading companies over-promise and under-deliver. Here are some tips to help you.
* Be wary of sources that quote quickly and don’t ask many questions.
* Always request quotes from multiple sources.
* Watch out for pricing that is too good to be true.
* Always ask for terms that require a down payment with remainder due upon inspection of the order.
* Try to negotiate the use of payment tools like letters of credit or escrow. Most will say no, but it’s good to try.
* Use a third party inspection service to inspect your orders. Understand that the cheap inspection services will only count boxes.
* Clearly specify your quality expectations, delivery deadlines and other needs in your purchase order.
* Do NOT depend heavily on directory websites alibaba.com to qualify your sources.
There are very few (basically no) legal remedies if you are dealing directly with a Chinese factory or trading company. So again, I recommend using a United States based trading company or establishing your own buying office in China.
Answer by Abrontinee ChenI side with willingtohelp~~~
Willingtohelp is great, his ideas are quite useful. But besides the payments you need to care about, I think the most important thing is to locate a community consisted of reliable suppliers.
Avoiding the fraud and cheat is not your final goal, your destination is to find some reliable manufacturers who can share a long-term business relationship with you.
So, in this case, you can check
Because all the suppliers here are real manufacturers and verified with GMC (Global Manufacturer Certificate) audited by Intertek and TUV.
GMC (Global Manufacturer Certificate) Standards:
1. Certified Manufacturer:
Ownership or leasehold of the factory, or ownership of Private Brands
2. High Qualified Productivity:
ISO9001 certificate or Quality Management System, product certificate /approvals; valid monitor of total quality management during the manufacturing; and valid inspection of goods
3. Considerable Company Size:
Factory Production capacity over USD 5 million or export revenue value of Private Brands over USD 5 million
4. Expertise Team of Foreign Trade:
Foreign trade team with English or foreign language skills and experience in export
5. R & D Ability:
Full R & D team/department
6. Social Environmental Responsibility:
Healthy and safety working environment in accordance with the Social Environmental Responsibility and not employing the child labor
7. Credit or Goodwill:
No illegal record or fraud in business behaviors, and having made a statement
8. OEM/ODM/OBM Experience: Experience of OEM/ODM/OBM (Reference Standard)
I guess that if you combine with willingtohelp’s advices and GlobalMarket’s supplier pool, you can boom up your business in the future.
