1 – the first thing to do ASAP is report them to the site where you met so they can remove the profile and prevent others from falling victim
2 – Report it to the FBIs IC3 division https://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx
3 – post the scammers name, photos, email address, phone, etc on the big romance scam sites so others searching that person’s name will find your posts

4 – If you gave this criminal any personal information, check the FTC’s site on the steps you need to take to prevent yourself from becoming an identity theft victim
https://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/idtheft/
Remember – when doing online dating you NEVER
– give your full name, birthdate, address or any other personal information to anyone you have not met face to face for any reason. Not only are there scammers but there are pervs and stalkers and nobody needs this until you know the person face to face and KNOW you want them to know who and where you are
– communicate offsite. Until you actually meet all communication goes through the site. Only a scammer will ask you to immediately chat through IM – that’s so the site has no record of your chats when you do get the FBI involved
– chat with anyone whose profile lists one location but when you connect they say they are somewhere else.
Report the scammer to the online dating site, then make him and his scam googlable on the internet.
Making a scammer’s scam googlable on every scam-warner-anti-fraud-busting site you can find is a great way to slow that scammer down when a suspicious potential victim goes looking for information, finds your post containing the name the scammer is using, his email address, phone number and the emails themselves and then that potential victim does not become a scam victim because you took the time “get the word out”.
Wasting a scammer’s time legally and safely is called “scambaiting”. If you google that word, you will find sites where you can read scambaits, post up the emails and email addresses of scammers, post up a fake website, read up on how to alert a hosting company that they are hosting a fake website, ask questions and learn all about the hobby of scambaiting.
