I’ve been thinking about replacing my well used Tour Master soft bags with some hard bags….

I don’t see a problem with selling saddlebags, but I would carry other items also. Other leather goods, patches, you know stuff like that.
Looking at the numbers of motorcycles without saddlebags — not much interest.
I bought saddlebags from Leatherlyke, over 7 years ago, they are still good. I may be getting panniers for my Vespa. I will ONLY buy from sites I can trust.Answer by Dan H
They are a must for me on any bike I own, but my bike has hard bags and I’ll not be buying new ones.Answer by Jummy
Saddlebags are not necessary for a bike, many person are using their bikes without saddlebags.Answer by glenbarrington
This is a niche item.
I like saddlebags as they make carrying small items much more possible. I’m a photographer and I’m always carrying small stuff. But in the US, motorcycles are mostly a recreational vehicle, so few people NEED saddle bags.
The only people you can sell to are those who need them and those who see them as a fashion accessory for their bikes.
Why not consider more than just saddle bags? Why not consider all sorts of ‘biker luggage’? for instance. I’d love a way to store a camera on my body or bike that would allow me fast access to a camera for a quick shot one handed. How about a waterproof tank bag designed for a Droid or iPhone that would allow access to controls? It seems the bags I’ve seen have phone compartments designed for older flip phones, but smart phones seem neglected.
There are all sorts of unmet needs in biking. Try to find them. Sell to a lot of different niche markets, not just one.
