I used to work in accounting (years ago) and have been working with computers for about 15 years (programmer, db, java). I am thinking about changing careers but REALLY like the money I get now. What careers are out there for a 30 something male that still needs to support a family?

all your experience you could do jsut about anything you want. any employer would like a manager who could fix computer problems too 😉 i would go for it. i have worked in management, finance and now am one semester away from beign a nurse lol

zero. I had two internships in public/non-public accounting. The idea is to work for leading company in your field and then start your own business. Now you do not have to re-develop the wheel. There are learning curves to stay ahead of.

You really don’t have a lot of options when you have the responsibility of a family. Your first duty is to them. In my case, I changed careers about 3.5 years ago from secretarial to private auditing. But even as a secretary I changed jobs a lot and worked in a wide variety of industries and their respective departments. Maybe you’re less bored with being a programmer than you are with the type of company you work for. Stay in the field but go someplace else.
