: How long until marriage equality becomes the majority view?
Support for marriage equality has been rising for a few years now. How long until Americans decide that everyone has the fundamental right to enter into mutual contracts without restraint from the federal government on the basis of arbitrary moral standards?
No, no one has the fundamental right to marry, but they do have the fundamental right to equality under the law according to the equal protections clause – that means all laws must apply equally to all citizens. That means you can’t issue marriage licenses to some citizens, but not others. And dogs can’t consent to contracts – legal adults can.
