Identity Crisis: How long before religion becomes something of the past and not the present anymore?
Before we had only The Catholics and Muslims and the eastern religions. Now we have Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses, the Wahhabi sects, so many different sects within each main organized religion. When will they all become small enough to be insignificant or disappear from the pages of the History of this planet?

When you, as an atheist, stop thinking about them.
For all purposes, you can then believe religions have disappeared
Religion will always be around, in one form or another.

It is going to take a very long time. I would predict in Christian countries that atheism will be the majority in say 100 years. Islamic countries will take longer, but it will happen.Answer by Anon
Catholicism represents a major portion of the earth’s population with over a billion members. It’s going to be a very long time before they become insignificant enough not to count. The world will probably end first.
By the way, I’m not sure how “before” your “before” is, but the Coptic churches predate Catholicism (Roman, Eastern Orthodox, and the two combined).

It won’t be long, I’m sure. Religion as a whole seems to be frowned upon and mocked more often than not already. It’ll disappear eventually, and then reappear years later as a cultural ‘trend’ or something. After that, I foresee it coming and going in waves, but it will never be like it once was.Answer by tcoJCoLDS member

The signs are not good. There seems to be something in the human heart which yearns for a supernatural truth, “greater” than the natural one. This is practically always perpetrated by people who know very little about the natural truths, and in fact fear them.
Bottom line: like hard drugs, religion offers cheap thrills that cannot be obtained honestly, and unlike hard drugs, it probably won’t kill you… although it might f*ck up the lives of other people, like your kids and anybody who is not a member of your group.
Answer by MikeyI think it’s funny when people think that religion will eventually become extinct. Religion has been around since man could rationally think. I had an Atheist tell me to look into Secular Humanism, and he wouldn’t admit to it but that itself could be considered a religion.
Religion in its TRUE form, would harbor a society of peace and goodwill towards one another. Those who promote their beliefs with violence, or through fear should be avoided.
