Jeanna: How is this going to affect my tattoo?
I got a wrist tattoo on Saturday and it is a pretty simple design (it’s the cruelty free bunny) so it would have been pretty difficult to mess it up. The tattoo looks good now, but when the tattooer did it on Saturday, she didn’t shave my wrist beforehand.
My arm hair is very fine and blonde so it is difficult to see (it is almost invisible on my wrists/forearms), but I do have hair there. Shouldn’t she have shaved my wrists first? How is this going to affect my tattoo?

If you got your tattoo in a professional shop, by a professional tattooist, then you don’t have anything to worry about. We don’t always shave the area we are tattooing because it isn’t always necessary. Your tattoo will be fine. Wrists aren’t especially hairy areas on women, unless of course you’re Italian like me, lol. I had to have my wrist/forearm area shaved thoroughly beforehand.
Congratulations on your new tattoo!
Sorry, I don’t have the answer you’re looking for, I just need some points 🙂
BUT, I’ve seen people getting tattoos without the area being shaved, So you should be good.
Answer by madamevonblondeyes, she should have shaved! dont worry though…it should be o.k. all not shaving does ie possibly push the hair into the pore …you might get ingrown hair, and infection from hair in the pore…i.e; a boil.Answer by Bex
No one shaved me for mine.Answer by clowndani
Yeah, Im suprised she didnt shave your wrist first. I thought that was standard practice! Maybe she plum forgot, or because it is really fine and hard to see, didnt think it was necessary.
It shouldnt affect your tattoo though. Even when you do get shaved first, the hair still starts to regrow as the tattoo is still healing anyway.
In fact, I bet you dont get so itchy with the healing process. I was just thinking the other day, that the hair re-growth would make the itching even worse than the skin healing!
Answer by KarissaFrom what you are saying – you probably aren’t a very hairy person, so that explains why she didn’t shave your wrist before the tattoo. I wouldn’t worry if I were you. Once the tattoo isn’t blurry now it should be OK once you follow the instructions and make sure it heals properly.Answer by kG
For the person that said that as long as a professional shop did it then you are ok- That is totally wrong!!!
It was very smart of you to question what your tattoo artist was doing!! Don’t assume that just because the person is a professional that they won’t make mistakes.
They should have shaved it, but I think you will be okay. Just keep a close eye on it.
Answer by ariettaI have a wrist tattooed and mine got shaved before i got inked, however i have a tattoo that runs all the way down my back to my hip and that wasn’t shaved at all and turned out fine!
It should turn out fine, but if worst comes to the worst you’ll only need a slight touch-up and most studios will offer to do them free if needed or if the client isnt happy with the tattoo!
