NikkiLynne: How does saving energy/electricity help to “Go Green”?…?
I’ve been looking up ways to “Go Green” and I’ve found some things such as turning off your computer and unplugging it when it’s not in use, and unplugging appliances after using them, but how does that actually help when “Going Green”?
Also, if anyone has any other tips on being more…Green, those would be much appreciated (not just use less water, turn down the thermostat, recycle…).

Using electricity that isn’t solar or something means that it uses fossil fuels..
You can get solar panels, maybe have a garden, use brown paper bags or reusable bags, organic stuff, ride a bicycle or walk more *cut down on carbon emissions*
Answer by Mary PattersonDoing what you are doing does save energy because most appliances use energy even if not being used! Just by being plugged in. I don’t know why but they do! Tips for saving gas. If you are idling for a long time in the car turn it off! But be careful because turning the car off and on again and again actually takes more gas than just idling! If you are idling for 10 sec. or more and then turn the car off and then it will save gas. thi is a long answer but I hope it’s helpful! Good luck!Answer by Edward
those are conservation methods. the next step is to use things that are pullutant free. like permaculture for instance. or passive and active solar design in buildings. since these are more costly, people use conservation methods as a next best thing until the other options are more economically viable.
Using both methods would be best.

Hi I am the owner of Mountain Wind & Solar (please be aware though that this website is still under construction).
Currently most electricity is created by burning coal to turn turbines that Create electricity. So when you are wasting energy, you are also wasting the coal that was used to produce it, and forcing more coal to be burnt to make up for that electricity. Eventually we will run out of coal, and the more coal that is burned the more greenhouse gasses are produced, etc… The sad thing about most appliances that we use it that they use electricity even when they are just plugged in, so unplugging appliances is a great way to “Go Green.”
Another great way to “Go Green” is to produce your own electricity by using either Solar Panels or Wind Turbines.

Answer by SherrieSAdd trees to your yard to help keep it cooler in summer.
Compost rather than throwing away garbage or using the garbage disposal.
Plant your own garden and/or buy your vegetables & fruits from local growers.
Wait until you have a full washer or dishwasher before turning either one on.
Answer by Rox CovelliWell those are some of the ways to conserve energy, which is likely to be considered as “Going Green” too. Other ways could be having solar panel systems or any solar technologies installed in your home. It may be expensive but it’s all worth it to try. To cost you less, you might want to try DIY. Well, there are a lot of ways to “Go Green” without spending too much money. Conserving energy. Planting trees. Clean your surroundings. Dispose your trash properly. Etc.Answer by Mike
Hi Nikki, I’m too an environmentalist. A faulty wiring connection in your home could consume more power thus rises the need for more power to be produced and it in turn affects the environment. But by using a data logger you can check for faulty connections which could help to cut off energy bills as well as make you to go greener by saving energy. I bought a data logger for my home from an online shop https://www.elcomponent.co.uk/Answer by ?
There’s many good “green” products on OrganicMechanics.com
You can purchase a wind turbine to save energy. This micro wind turbine is a good one to choose. It’s powerful, durable, and can produce electricity in winds as low as 2.5 MPH.
You can buy a Greenhouse kit so that you can grow your own food. Food is actually what makes up the most of the average person’s economic footprint because food has to be transported, unless it’s grown locally, and even then some fuel will have to be used to transport it. Also, food that isn’t grown locally is packaged, which ends up being a waste of plastic. The Greenhouse kit has a lot of space, 50 square feet if you get the 6×8 size, so you will have plenty of space for many vegetables. It has vent window, rainwater spouts, and UV protection so you will have healthy plants that grow quickly.
Also, a Oil Filtration Centrifuge is very “green”. Instead of wasting vegetable oil after you’ve used it in cooking, you can turn it into fuel to use in your car.
