LOL! OH! I can’t stop laughing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am a “kitty mom” to three…
TRUST me when I tell you that the only ones who seem to be able to “train” a cat are the professionals…
You can probably have a little success from using treats…
however, cats are KNOWN for being very, um, independent..
Not to burst your bubble…but cats are notoriously hard to train (other than litterbox training…)
Get a dog..why would you do that at the 1st place? Go to the bathroom on command? Try doing that yourself, tell me how that works for you…Answer by Bella S
Well, I don’t really think you can train a cat.It would be really hard, plus cats rely on themselves and as they get older they start to have an atitude where they want to be alone and no one’s bothering them.In my opinion a dog would be easier to train because they love to have attention, cats don’t like much attention. Cats become really independent, but if you think you can train your cat go for it, i guess anything is possible if you try, so good luck!Answer by kittycat
Cats aren’t like dogs. They don’t usually obey ccommands. Some of the commands you can teach you cat though is…
fetch
turn on and of a faucet
ring a doorbell
learn its name
learn to sit and stay
But teaching a cat ommands takes a while I’m teaching my cat her name. Its been 2 months and shes still trying to get the idea.
Good Luck!
Answer by Shirley RA cat cannot be trained like a dog and why would you want to? You are the one that has to learn to read your cats language. I really cannot believe this is a true question, it must be a joke.Answer by sunflower
You should probably give it a string to play with then you tell it-to do tricks then it’ll listen to youAnswer by ♥Love is a Border Collie Rescue♥
I feel that the majority of cats aren’t super into training. You’ll be able to tell by your cat’s personality if it seems like it’ll be into training.
If he’s very social, comes when you call him, can do simple things like reach up for treats, and follow you with string, etc, then you’ll be able to teach it basic things. However, it’s not really likely you’ll be able to say “Kittums, dance!” and she’ll hop up and start doing the hokey pokey.
Answer by YatiraWow. As a mother of 2 cats I must say, let me know when you find out.
Cats aren’t the trained type. Its in a dog’s nature to please the master. A cat believes she is the master. Over 3 years and 2 cats, I’ve taught them “get down”, “no”, and “food”. I can also ask one if she wants to see the turtle (I have a turtle) and she’ll go straight to the turtle’s tank and wait for me. None of these things are tricks. They hear the word “food” whenever I’m feeding them. They hear “no” and “get down” whenever they are doing wrong. They know the turtle because I always say his name when I am standing in that spot. One comes when I say “Come here” and that’s nothing shy of a miracle.
Here’s what you can do. Constantly show your kitty where her litter box is when they seem like they need to go. They don’t like to go in various places. Once they know where the box is, they will most likely go there on their own. They may whine or stand at their food dish when hungry but that’s no promise. Other than that, your cat will do nothing just to entertain. In a cat’s mind, YOU should be entertaining them.
Answer by Susie YCan you train a cat like you train a dog? NO. Can you teach a cat English? YES. Do cats do what you ask of them? DEFINITELY YES
My cat Nemo can do:
Come when called
Sit
Lie down
Jump up
Jump off
Jump over (a barrier)
Walk through a tunnel
Walk on harness and leash
Go into his crate or backpack
Shake hands
He learned most of those commands within 2 months of being adopted by us. Does he always listen? No, nor do I expect him to. It depends on his mood and whether he thinks he’s busy. Cats and dogs are very different in nature. You can not establish your authority over a cat like you would to a dog. It simply doesn’t work. Cats aren’t pack animals so they don’t need to work with anybody for food and protection. The only way to teach them to do what you want is by making them believe there’s something good in it for them. My cat is extremely food motivated so he is extremely easy to teach. They are incredibly intelligent animals. If you can get them to willingly work with you it’s really not that hard.
I see training my cat as a form of communication and mental stimulation. I don’t teach my cat to “entertain”. I never show off his “skills” in front of others. I like it that he understands what I’m suggesting him to do. Whether to grant my wish is entirely up to him.
Remember, training should be fun for you and, more importantly, your cat. If you do it right the bonding between you and your cat will be stronger and it’ll be the most rewarding experience you’ve ever had.
I have some videos on YouTube of me training my cat:
I also have detail information about training on his website My Life As Nemo )

Loads and loads of patience and clicker training. Some cats will take to it, other cats might refuse the whole thing altogether.
Don’t worry about teaching the cat to tell you when it’s hungry, that comes automatically.
