How do you Say “Midnight” in Military Time?

wbbulldogs: How do you say “midnight” in military time?
I know 12:00 midnight in military time is 0000 but how do you say the 0000. Would it be “Oh-hundred-hours”? I’ve heard that Navy boot camp does not like when you say the hundred part when asking or telling time.

From what I recall, it’s 2400, or “twenty-four hundred hours”. The military also likes to go in 30-minute increments, so 12:30 am would be like “zero hundred thirty hours”.

It’s been a while since I had to use military time, so I may be a little rusty, but I think that’s how it went.

Answer by jason
0000 or 2400, most people just say midnight though

They Got It Right Also Acceptable Is “Balls” (Seriously They Say That, Wouldn’t Suggest Saying That To A “Superior” Officer)

Answer by m1a1mikegolf
You can use either and people will know what you are talking about. (Technically 2400 is the ‘official’ method with one second after midnight being 00:00:01)

Answer by Sabina
It’s zero-hundred hours.

M1A1Mike is right too…either is actually acceptable.

I don’t know about the Navy, since I’ve never been in the Navy, but at Parris Island, my Drill Instructors told me that time went from 0001 to 2400, and to say it twenty-four hundred. One minute later is Zero hundred and one.

Answer by Red 7
2400 is the correct time. After that time it becomes 0001 or later. If you are planning to enlist, ask your recruiter for some tips on telling time.
