gpakpa: How do you get your co-worker to use a tissue instead of making disgusting sniffing noises?
I have a co-worker who sits next to me, who almost never uses a tissue. It’s very annoying, and I don’t know a polite way to get him to stop. Please help…I’m about to lose my control.

* sniff * *sniff* *sniff*
offer him/her a tissue everytime he/she sniffs
or
just put a box of tissues right under their nose
or
tell them politely and explain that as a co-worker they don’t want someone else to end up telling him/her in a rude and hurtful way.
Answer by *****Maybe you could take over a tissue box of your own and offer him some. Say something like “Sounds like you’ve got a bad case of the sniffles. I’ve got some extra tissue if you need some?”Answer by David
I think YOU need a chill pill. Or a muscle relaxer, ’cause you sound anal.Answer by InAnotherLife08
You can’t. There are some things that people in the work place just do not have any control over.
I have a few co-workers that sit and whine 5 out of 8 hours of the day so I bring an MP3 player and put only one earbud in so that I can still hear the phone ring or someone speaking to me specifically.
You could try that, at least to distract yourself.
Or you could put a box of tissues on his chair when he’s away.
Answer by kill_yr_televisionMy you never be cursed with sinus problems, lest you disgust yourself. The poor man is probably struggling to breath at all. If it bothers you all that much find a pretext to move like being out of a draft or away from a doorway or something.Answer by Espresso Doppio
talk to your boss about this situation or just tell him or her that you would really appreciate it if he or she didn’t make such noises cuz it makes you sick to your stomach, don’t worry about hurting their feelings such people have no dignityAnswer by Sarah
Actually, constant sniffling is a health concern. Not only is the sound annoying, but it’s a reminder that the person isn’t practicing proper hygiene techniques. Even if the person is just suffering from allergies and isn’t contagious, there’s no way for everyone else to know that. If they’re not using tissues and washing their hands frequently, then they’re spreading germs and risking the health of everyone else.
I have a coworker who does that too. When I asked if he was feeling okay and if he needed some medication or tissues or something, he understood. Hopefully your coworker would also respond well to your concern so you don’t have to resort to talking to your manager.
