Him: How do you get a motorcycle license as a first license?
I’m asking for information on what steps are needed to get the permit then the transition to the motorcycle license. I am 18 and I have no drivers license, but I just want to get a motorcycle license.
I also forgot to add that I’m in NYS and please guys let me know like the transition as said earlier from first permit to license. Will a Driver License really be needed before getting a motorcycle? Will I have to get a junior license before hand?

no such thing.
the only sudo exception is a 15 year old permit to ride a 49cc or smaller motorcycle.
Answer by JonathanIt depends on your state, but every one I have lived in required a drivers license before getting a motorcycle endorsement. The way it usually works is you need to have a regular drivers license or permit, then take a written test to get your motorcycle permit (different photo ID) then, you come back and either have completed the MSF course, or take the skills test on your bike. If you pass, you get motorcycle ENDORSEMENT, not another license. From a safety standpoint, get your drivers license first. The rules of the road are generally not taught or tested on the motorcycle manual and examination. It is expected that you know them. In my experience, you need time in a car to be adequately prepared to handle a motorcycle on the road. There are things you learn to look for and react to that could save your life on a bike, they have for me. The best thing I can advise for you to do is spend a couple months behind the wheel of a car, sometime during that take the MSF course, (which requires a drivers license) and then worry about getting your license. Good luck and be safe!Answer by vulpix_grant
In Florida here, the M.S.F. Instructors tole me when I got my Endorsement to make Such and Such well sure that on my Drivers License it said “Motorcycle Also” and NOT “Motorcycle Only” – So in Florida you can get a Accidental Motorcycle Only License, but it is only an error on the DMV People.
I can not imagine why you would not want a regular license? It doesn’t cost anything except the processing fee and the road test, and it allows you to drive a vehicle? If you don’t want to do the Book Learning for the regular license, you really will not like the book learning and studying you “SHOULD” Do to be able to ride without killing yourself. If you worried about the Road Test, in a car, then you really should not ride a Motorcycle!?!
But to each their own, but the fells above me on the list are right, the M.S.F. “Motorcycle Safety Foundation” Does not teach typical rules of the road. The general premise is that you learn that from your regular license and don’t have to be taught it during the course. Instead they teach you how to ride safely and how to handle the bike without falling over.
Answer by Firecracker .It depends entirely on which state you live in.
Some states require a license to which you add an endorsement – others do not.
Some states require a training course, others do not.
Different states have different rules for their permits. Some are good for a year, mine was 30 days.
Even within a state, the rules can get a little funky.
Here, you can get a permit and then a license. No course required.
To take the Beginner’s Riding Course at DMV, you must have a valid driver’s license.
