Happy Bells: How do you convince your mom or dad to let you have a fish?
Ok… I really want a rat but my mom hates them so I think I should start out with something smaller and easier. So I chose a fish. I asked my mom if I could have one and she said no because you need to clean the water and all that stuff. And that we have to much animals. This really upsets me so any suggestions?

there is no such thing as too many animals as long as you can look after them.
just pay for it yourself. i am 14 and have 5 aquarium setups and my parents dont mind because i use my own money
they are not hard to clean
Answer by catxShe is right, fish are a lot more hard work to care for, get sick very easily, and it costs a lot of money (well into the hundreds) for a good quality spacious set up, including equipment, tank and fish.
If you really want fish, research proper fish care and then see if you still want to go ahead with it. But when parents say no, it means no. If you already have a lot of other animals, why not care for them and give them more attention than doing an Elmyra

buy it yourself?
To a beginner I would suggest a betta
they are the only fish that are able to live in a bowl
you could pick one up at petsmart
male-$ 4-6
female $ 2-5
you will need some…
plants
fish food
water conditioner
tank or bowl
rocks
Well, get a 2.5 gallon tank, hydor mini aquarium heater and decorations.
Research fish less cycling the tank, it is MUCH better for the fish than cycling with the fish! Here is an article about the nitrogen cycle every tank goes throu!https://www.aquatic-hobbyist.com/profiles/misc/fishlesscycling.html
Ok, after the tank is cycled, do a 25% water change once a week.
Do not, I repeat DO NOT get a goldfish unless you have a tank of at least 20 gallons!
A betta is the perfect fish for you!
The long finned ones, or plakots(Often marked as “king bettas’ in petco) are short finned male bettas.
Females are much smaller and have short fins.
Feed flake food made for bettas, not pellet. Pellet food expands in there stomach and some bettas react very badly to this, so it is best ot play is safe and get flake food. Or if you get pellet. Soak it in a dish of water for about 10 minutes so it is fully expanded and then feed it to your fish.
I suggest reading up for a betta and showing your mom everything you know in kinda a “research paper’ or folder.
Good luck! E-mail me if you have any questions!
Also, no more than one male per tank and females can only be kept together in a tank of at least 10 gallons!
Answer by Elizabeth KIf you really want a rat why would you settle for something you don’t really want?
Fish are not simple pets. You have a lot of research to do if you want to convince your parents that you are ready. I would spend a month studying and getting your facts together, and then present your parents with a binder of all your work.
Answer by Dark RyokSome fish may be smaller than rats, but they are not easy at all to take care of. If you are new to fishkeeping, you will most likely make a few mistakes and end up losing your entire tank.
A fish requires much more than a bowl. Any fish you get will require at least a 5 gallon tank. If you want goldfish, youll need at the least a 20-30 gallon tank. All fish require filters. And if you pick tropical fish, you need a heater.
Ive been keeping fish for about 7 years now, and Ive kept a few rodents their entire lives (mainly hamsters) during that time. Hamsters are by far easier to care for than fish. When and if they get sick, its much easier to notice. You can give them their meds and everythings alright. WIth fish, if there is no physical difference, you wont know any better. You have to know what to look for.
Believe me when I say this… Fish arent easy. Or cheap. A proper setup can easily run you into 200 dollars for a small tank. Whereas you can spend 50-60 dollars and have just about everything you need for a hamster.
If she stands at no fish, let it be that. I graduated last year and for the most part, my mom doesnt care what animal I buy (lmao. no rats, mice, or snakes), because its my money, but if she says no, it is her house, and she has say. Sometimes in life, you cant get what you want, and pushing for it only makes things worse.
