Bluntly.
“Please do not play on your phone when you are with me. It is rude and makes me feel you don’t really want to be here.”
Answer by Professor QweeshyYou say “Can you please stop tweeting/answer texts while we’re eating.” I don’t know what’s so complicated about it.Answer by shadowfan
i guess the best way would to be direct with them and ask them not to and tell them why it bothers youAnswer by EllBell
I would probably start with a joke or alittle teasing. Something like, “what, am I boring you?” (with a smile and a nice voice, of course :] ). If they keep doing it you can say something more outright.Answer by SugarCat
It depends on who it is. If it is someone of lower or equal status than you like your kid or your husband, just ask. But if it is someone of higher status like your boss, you have to endure.
It is so RUDE to text and tweet while you are with someone!
Answer by Leo DJust say”can you put that away until after dinner? If he won’t, leave, because either he is addicted to it or he’s not really into you, and both are a waste of your time .Answer by latj
As a Psychologist I would say that honesty is going to be your best friend. Tell them that according to social etiquette it is rude to “tweet” or “text” or even answer their phone while in the company of others. Ask them just to cut it off.

Hash this out before you even go out together that tonight will be a ‘no-text zone’. This is one of my pet peeves. I find it incredibly inconsiderate and hurtful. If they refuse, don’t go, or get up and leave. This behavior only continues because we allow it.Answer by Susan E
Get up and leave. When they chase you out the door and ask why you left, tell them if you wanted to eat alone you would have gone to the restaurant alone. Seeing as you were with the other person you thought you’d actually be talking to each other.Answer by Gemini De burgh
I would point blank ask them if they realize how rude that is. Seriously, what have you got to lose? It is rude and they shouldn’t be doing it.
