: How do I get better at piano?
I’ve been playing since 2009, and I have a teacher, but I just seem to NEVER improve. I’ll play the same song over and over and OVER again but I always make the SAME mistakes and I NEVER can fix them. Ever. Please help, I”m getting very upset..

Ask for god’s help, or if you don’t like piano….don’t play it -.-
Try a new way of learning, it’s like revision not all people will learn the work just by reading so they work around it. It being piano it’s obviously much harder at trying other ways of never making the same mistake. Try different songs that include that misake (key) you always do. Try playing with your eyes closed, there’s loads of ways, you just have to think outside the box..Answer by DLA
practice, practice, practice is the only way to get better at any instrument. Also knowing how to practice is important. Break the song up and practice one measure at a time where theres problems, instead of always going through the whole song. Practice the measures you’re having trouble with by just playing that measure over and over again, start very slow and gradually increase the speed. Then once you have it down, play that measure and some others before/after it. (example: you keep messing up at bar 45. play bar 45 over and over again as i just mentioned, then once you have it play bars 40-45, once you can play that without messing up play bars 40-50, etc) By only working on the problem areas you won’t be wasting time by repeating parts you can already play. Eventually you should be able to go through the song no problemAnswer by Brendan
Maybe its not right for youAnswer by hangin’ in there
I agree with the practice answers, but how you practice is essential. If you’re playing a song over and over without improving it, you’re just reinforcing your mistakes.
How about this? Set your metronome (must have) on a slow enough click that you can play what you are playing absolutely perfect. Fix problem areas by working them alone. When you’ve conquered that speed, move up a notch and do again. Fix any new problem areas that arise. Be sure and pay attention to all phrasing, dynamics, etc., and make sure your technique is right. Stay relaxed. Keep working your way up the metronome until you can play the piece faster than necessary. Now back off to the correct speed and enjoy!
I used to play pipe organ concerts. I used this technique to go from “just-opened-the-book” to playing in front of people. Believe me, it works.
