Radio and CD’s only have left and right sound tracks. Movies have surround sound so there is information for all 5 speakers. It is just a matter of available information.Answer by Kevin L
Some receivers or systems have a sound effect that allows you to play all speakers for music. If not then you ether have to listen to stereo or purchase dedicated music cd’s or dvd’s that has been recorded in surround sound.

Select the surround mode called 5-Channel Stereo or something like that. When you have a stereo input (from a radio or CD player), the receiver will only put out a stereo output, and all but the front right and left channels are shut down. But, most surround receivers have a mode that allows the right channel audio to be played from the right front and rear speakers, and the left channel from the left front and rear speakers. The center channel is then just a monophonic combination of the right and left channels.
