E. Nigma: How do I get files off of desktop when i can power up the desktop but the monitor will not respond?
All I get is a blank screen on my monitor, IT seems to think that my motherboard might have crashed. I need to get photos and files off of desktop though, how do I do this?
I should have probably also said that I am not a computer genius by any means, just probably average.

Slave it to another PC☺

Answer by KarzIf PC does not BEEP once after powering ON, it is not really booting at all, thus no video signal to monitor.
Try resetting CMOS. With PC unplugged, reset using the CMOS jumper pin switch on motherboard OR simply by removing CMOS battery on motherboard for at least 30 sec. Then power ON PC. If PC beeps once, press Del or F2 to open BIOS menu. Load fail-safe defaults, save and exit. PC should start normally.
If reset does not work, motherboard may have a problem.
To retrieve your files, you need to pull out the hard drive then put it into an external drive enclosure that connects to USB. Connect it to a laptop or a working desktop so you could retrieve your files.
