doulostheos: getting a fiancée visa and the requirement to meet in person?
This question is regarding obtaining a fiancée visa for someone living in the Philippines. I have heard that the US embassy is very strict in granting tourist visas, and wondered if they were the same when it comes to fiancée visas. To be more specific, what I want to know is, in order to fulfill the requirement that they actually meet in person, how long of a visit is recommended? Would a visit of one to two weeks be considered adequate, or would it be better that they spend a longer time together?

You must prove you have a bona fide relationship. If you have evidence of 1-2 years of romantic emails going back and forth and then meet in person for only a few weeks, that would be sufficient. But if you just met only recently, only went for a week, then you are going to have a tough time proving this is a real relationship and that this person is not just trying to marry you to get a green card.
If you have known each other online quite a while, I would go spend as much time as you can. I don’t care where somebody is from – you don’t really know a person you meet online, you just see who they present to you online. Until you spend time with them in person, you have no idea what they are really like. See how she acts with her friends and family, meet her family, get pictures not only of the two of you together, but also with her family.
You need to make sure this person is really the one for you. Don’t rush into anything – make sure you really know this person and spend as much time as you can together before rushing into marriage. And unfortunately marriage fraud out of the Philippines is very common so just make sure your girl is honest and really in love with you.

i think a short visit is fine.. but make sure it is real.. and the relationship is true. You can add your YM, email, gmail, fb or traditional love conversation/ letter when applying. They will check that.
Make sure that the girl is also stable in terms of finances and u as well. And you must both have pictures together or videos.. and include family or clan.. that helps

The duration doesn’t matter. As long as you met in person within 2 years before applying I-129F Petition, you have met the requirement. And yes, US Embassy is still strict approving K1 Fiance visa, since Philippines is one of the high fraud countries.
