Im doing a global essay and they want me to describe two basic beliefs of islam, and explain how members of that religion at a specific time and place ,acted either to unify society or to cause conflict in society. Help please.. this is really hardd

You need to be clear about your question – Do you mean when the persian empire was first taken over by islam? or the 1979 Islamic Revolution?

The toppling of the shah was on good example of how Islam managed to first split the society (the lower classes versus the upper classes) and than unified it (into one Islamic nation).

Another thing, if this essay is global, than why focus on Iran? You can find much better examples of both conflict and unity caused by Islam than that.

Disunity in islam led to the success of the first crusade !!! The Seljuks (or Su’ni muslims), were attacking the Byzantium empire of Alexus I in 1096. However, the Seljuks were also fighting with rival muslims, the Fatmids (or Shi’ats), at the same time !!! This made it easy for crusaders to capture much territory, which they claimed as crusader states (including Jerusalem). This also led to the ravaging of the countryside and the sacking of many cities. It also resulted in a great loss of muslim lives, especially with regards to the capture of jerusalem !!!

Equality and Justice. For example the Iranian revolution. It happened because the lower class was being oppressed and since a lot of the lower class people were faithful muslims their religion was being threatened as well. The people who wanted to restore Islam and peace in their region were usually not given any chance because they were lower class. WHen the lower class became united they faced many hardships (stuff that will make you sick to your stomach, example is nails being pulled out of their fingers.) But eventually they made their way to the top and acquired equality. if you want more info send me a message and I will answe any questions you have
