mar595: How can spam be generated using my Yahoo address book?
About once per week a spam message for a canadian pharmacy is sent out to everyone in my address book. It seems to happen when I am not even connected to an internet site.
I have ran virus checks and find nothing on my system.

it’s not possible…

Your account has been compromised, Yahoo strongly suggests that you change your password immediately. Then it will stop. You should alert your contacts that the message was not sent from you directly and to not click the link because it is a virus/malworm.Answer by watertonian
The same thing here. Was it sheitrecords dot com/ (ID number)_1.html? (spam-encoded URL to keep people from clicking on it). I forwarded the e-mails to a separate account I use, downloaded them to a secure computer (An Amiga 1200), and reviewed the header. There was nothing in the sent folder, not sure if this means whatever cracked the account is “spoofing” the source address, or is smart enough to delete messages from the sent folder. Hopefully the header will shed some light on that subject. Might be some new exploit for the address book.
Generally, I use my Amiga, or my netbook with Ubuntu Linux to check my e-mail, and use Yahoo mail as a spam-bucket. (if I need to submit an e-mail address to register for a site, I use yahoo, and use another account for “important” e-mail).
Unfortunately, I had used yahoo as a primary years ago, and had e-mail accounts from that time. I’ve since deleted all the contacts, changed my password, and continue checking it with any operating system other than windows.
About the URL, it goes to that sheitrecords site, and I’m worried about the numbers that follow it. (Typical tracking move, by assigning numbers in various e-mails, the site can log which ones respond, re-affirming any spam in that direction). Mine was i8n the 500 range, so it must be a pretty new bout of spam.
