How can I tell a co-worker something that wont hurt his feelings?

Theodoric of York: How can I tell a co-worker something that wont hurt his feelings?
My co-worker whom shall remain nameless (Carlos) has the unfortunate habit of passing gas ALL DAY LONG!! I have discussed this with other co-workers and they agree it is not beneficial to the work environment. My work performance has suffered because of this. I literally become dizzy when working on a project in his vicinity. Help!

Talk to his manager and have them bring the subject up to him. This is probably really uncomfortable for him and should be brought up only by his manager to make sure his feelings aren’t hurt and you don’t break any company policy.

He probably needs to wear underwear to keep that hole at bay, you think?

Answer by jimi
Who is his supervisor? Perhaps that is the person you should be talking to.

Obviously you would have to tell him, maybe approach him in a jokey way with the gas problem subject in context.

Suggest that he takes Carbon Tablets, i heard they should help reduce gas/smells.

Use this website; it’s an anonymous way to send a co-worker a message about their bad habits!!

Answer by TwinkaTee
I wouldn’t say anything directly to him, but I would bring in a can of air freshener and the next time you smell it, spray the can. This will let him know that his farts are not going unnoticed. If he doesn’t get the hint and stop, the very next time you smell it, say out loud: “I am not sure who is passing gas, but if you don’t mind, please go to the bathroom. It is making it very uncomfortable and unpleasant around here.” This way, you are not calling your co-worker out, but you are addressing the issue directly.

PS
Suggest that he get some Bean-O. I heard that it works wonders to help relieve gas.

I am certain if all of you know it.., he does too. This may be a medical condition that he struggles with. A lot medications can cause gas. Perhaps some gas-x pills

LOL. He may have some type of “uncontrollable” flatulent problem but I would ask him politely if he have some type of flatulent problem. If he says no then you need to tell him it’s not professional and he need to go to the restroom. Oh my goodness, this is just too funny 🙂

Answer by Alicia B
omg tell your boss to say something about it. it is either the responsability of the manager or the boss to get that done. believe it or not ive had managers tell employees that they need to shower. if it is affecting your performance. do something about it. you can make it more of a “funny” problem as opposed to an “offensive” problem. he might deal with it better that way. good luck with that.

Answer by Phil
There is a company that makes chair cushions with filters in them that absorb the odor. Go to www.gasbgon.com and order one for him as a gift. He doesn’t have to know what it is. Otherwise, just tell him as politely as you can. He will be mad, and there’s nothing you can do about it, but eventually he will get over it.

By the way, sometimes such problems are the side effect of medications, like anti-anxiety meds and anti-depressants, so have a little compassion.

Answer by MONIC
If his name is Carlos, he must be eating eating a lot of beans or be overweight (coz Spanish ppl they love that).  Hurting his feelings?  Agh the man is hurting your nose, and your mind and you still worry about his feelings??? That’s absolutely not acceptable, unless he has a medical condition, that I doubt it.  That is rude impolite not good at all.  If I was you, I will find out if he eats beans or not, if he does, try at lunch time for him not to eat it, tell him veggies are better, or even best tell him to stop farting or you and all your co-worker will do the same ….Yakkkkkyyyyy

Answer by Lard Tacos
Put a bottle of Gas-X on his desk before he comes in. He won’t know who put it there.
