Alice: How can I make my room cat free while a cat is living in my house?
My bf is moving in with me in my room. I have a cat in my house and hes allergic to cats. Is there anyway to clear up my room from cat hair and other stuff that’ll make him allergic without kicking the cat out?

If you wash everything in your room including the carpet and the curtains and keep the cat out, it would be ok.

Well, make sure your cat doesn’t go in there. Close the door when you leave the room. Also, if you are worried about the hair you could also change clothes outside of the room… like in the bathroom, and be sure to put your hairy clothes in the wash. You also should get a pet vacuum to vacuum up the hair. You can also train the cat to not go on furniture and stuff so it will be hair-free. Make sure your bf always wears slippers or socks in the house so if there’s cat hair on the floor he won’t touch it. Hope it helps!!!!! ๐Answer by Snapz
Even if you kick your cat out he will still probably have allergic reactions since allergies are generally to their saliva (which dries and flakes off – you probably can’t even see it in your room) unless the hair is there. My husband and I have 11 cats (indoors) (we have 4 family members that visit with allergies) … lol we aren’t hoarders just love too much, it’s very very clean, vacuumed often and litter boxes cleaned 3 times a day. Your best bet is to take the cat out of the bedroom, wash the sheets and bedding and vacuum and dust, it will help. Our relatives with allergies don’t touch the cats at all which helps but if they are in the house for several hours they get itchy and puffy, we have the upstairs which is mostly cat free that they have very few symptoms in … but in all honesty … cats generally outlast boyfriends ๐ make sure he’s the right one before you get rid of Fluffy ๐Answer by Elaine M
Get a hepa air filter for the bedroom, wash all the bedding, and wipe down the walls from knee high down to the floor with distilled water to remove any allergens there. This will clear up over 75% of the problem.
Your bf needs to see his allergest for what is the best anti-allergy med on the market that he can take. If he’s not making any effort to control his allergies, he’s not going to be doing anything to help himself. They have shots for much of what people are allergic to, and he needs to get as up to date on how to control things as he can.
