lesleyb05: How can I keep my apartment from smelling like a litter box?
I live in a 1 bedroom apartment with my 3 cats. What can I say I am a cat person. Anyway.. I have 2 litter boxes in the apartment and I buy the good kind of litter. I keep the boxes very clean but no matter what I do the apartment still smells like a litter box. I spray with air freshener and use febreeze but nothing seems to work. If you have any tips or tricks when it comes to litter boxes or on keeping my apartment smelling good that would be great. Thanks!

try fresh step
I don’t let the used litter sit in the kitchen garbage, it goes into an empty cat food bag (they’re plasticized and won’t leak or break) and crimp the top, then dump in the outside garbage every evening.
The box gets scooped any time I see the surface disturbed. Wet stuff and poop, it all gets removed completely.
Watch what you feed the cats too–foods with milk or fish in them make for smellier poops.
We have 5 cats, one box, and it’s not smelly in here. Just watch the surface and if it’s disturbed, take the few seconds to scoop out what’s been done.
Answer by Lauraor urine off do you need 2 litter boxes? and are your cats definatly going in the box? sounds silly we have neutered siamese and they still spray everywhereAnswer by chzbrgr
What’s “the good kind of litter”? For me, part of how good a litter is has to do with how well it absorbs odor. Sounds like your litter isn’t really doing its job.
Regardless, you can get those little baking soda odor-absorbing additives near the litter (they have more ingredients than baking soda that are specifically designed with pets in mind, but I don’t remember what they are off the top of my head). I sprinkle some of that after I scoop and it freshens everything right up.
Answer by lilicrashes1. clean the litter box in the morning and again before you go to sleep.
2. make sure the cats aren’t spraying if they are you can’t do much short of pulling up the carpets and throwing away what they sprayed on.
3. the pet stores sell biodegradable stuff to help get rid of the smell using enzymes. You need something that will actually break down the smell.(for places that smell other than the litter site)
4. I have 5 cats and I find that putting baking soda in the litter helps
5. In particular stinky places clean with WHITE vinegar. Vinegar takes out odors.
6. I use tidy cat multiple scoopable little.
7. even if you scoop out the little, you need to remove all the little and clean out the box completely once in a while. (scoopable, not sure if you are using clay)
All the things I have suggested are non toxic to you and to the cats so don’t be worried to use them.
Answer by KittyTry arm & hammer multi-cat extra strength clumping litter. it is slightly scented, but it’s not overbearing. it destroys odors instantly. i have three cats who live in my bedroom most of the time and i can’t smell a thing 🙂Answer by john
I am a fan of World’s Best Cat Litter. This is corn based and keeps the
odors in check. You may also want to ad a box of baking soda every
so often.Answer by Summer
I have the same problem. I have a kitten locked in my bedroom as it is kitten proofed and isolated from another cat.
I have tried all kinds of litter, and so far this is what worked best. I have a booda dome extra large with the steps which prevents litter from being tracked out. I sprinkle baking soda on the bottom of the box. Then I use Swheat Scoop and fill the box up A LOT so that the litter can clump properly.
I scoop twice a day and put the waste in a litter locker. A litter locker is like a diaper genie for pets and it makes it convenient to keep the soiled litter from smelling. Then finally after each time I scoop, I lightly spray the litter with arm and hammer litter deoderizing spray. It works great. I can’t smell anything bad anymore!!
