How can i get pet odor out of carpet?

Miss Livi: How can i get pet odor out of carpet?
My dog had a brief bladder infection…i took him out MULTIPLE times each day and he STILL urinated on the carpet! Unfortunately now the carpet has a slight pet odor smell! I’ve tried several pet enzyme cleaners….nothing has worked yet……It’s not a STRONG odor but yet noticeable!

have you tried arm and hammer ped ordor and urine remover. I love that stuff I used it all the time when we were house training our two pups who kept sneaking into my bedroom and going on my carpet. Spray down the stain until the spray is soacked alway down into the padding and let it sit for about 10 min then with old towel or lots of paper towels soak up the spray. You can also try renting a steam cleaner to clean the carpet. The city where I live in California the machines are available in supermarkets or at walmart, they cost about 20-25$ for i believe 24 hrs. I thinks its worth it to try it can get expensive to replace carpet or have a professional come in. Good Luck!!!!

Things You’ll Need:

Black-light Bulb
Pet-odor-neutralizing Powder With Enzymes
Vacuum
Water-extraction carpet-cleaning machine or carpet-shampoo machine

Step1
Always clean up pet messes as quickly and thoroughly as possible.

Step2
Identify the odiferous areas of your carpet. If you’re not sure where they are, darken the room and turn on a black-light bulb to highlight any dried accident spots.

Step3
Deep-clean the problem areas using a water-extraction carpet-cleaning machine or a carpet-shampoo machine and cool water only–no chemicals or cleaners. (To rent or buy one of these machines, look under “Carpet and Rug Cleaners’ Equipment and Supplies” or a similar heading in the yellow pages.)

Step4
Sprinkle an enzyme-containing pet-odor-neutralizing powder (available at pet stores or your vet’s office) on the affected areas. Pet-odor-neutralizing powders contain live bacteria and enzymes that digest odor-causing protein and bacteria, permanently removing it from the deepest fibers in your carpet. These products also contain a mild cleanser that can help remove discoloration. Alternatively, you can use borax powder or baking soda, but they are less effective in eliminating stubborn odors.

Step5
Let sit for 8 hours.

Step6
Vacuum the treated areas. Let sit for 24 hours.

Step7
If odor remains after you have treated the carpet with an enzyme odor neutralizer, repeat the treatment as needed to eliminate lingering odors.

Step8
Understand that in severe cases where the soiling has occurred for an extended period of time, you may need to replace the carpet padding.

Step9
If your pet continues to eliminate in inappropriate areas, treat the underlying cause.

Does your pet have easy access to the outdoors or to a litter box?

Is your cat demonstrating an aversion to her kitty litter?

Is your furry friend suffering from separation anxiety, loneliness or stress?

Tips :

Avoid using household cleaners, ammonia and vinegar on urine stains. The strong smell may draw your pet back to the spot to cover the strong stuff with his own scent.

Steam-cleaning urine-stained carpeting can set stains and odors by bonding the protein into the fibers.

Just went through this – We shampooed the carpets with a shampooer, using full strength shampoo, not half water, half shampoo. Odor still there. Then used laundry detergent (a full cap), vinegar and water (half and half). scrubbed this into the carpet, twice a day, used fan in-between to dry, for a week. Can you remove the carpet to outdoors, if so, flip the carpet and treat the underside too. We tried many other suggestions, none worked but this. Saved my carpet! Hope your dog is better!
