Caitlin: How can I get my cat to stay out of the plants?
We have a cat, and an indoor tree. Our cat likes to get into the pot and play in the dirt. We put tin foil around it because cats are said not to like it, but my cat doesn’t seem to mind it. What are some other ways to keep our cat out of the plants. Preferably something that we can use that is something household common.

Cover the top dirt with pebbles (you can get these at any garden center or landscaping place). She won’t like digging in the pebbles, but all that dirt is just too enticing for a cat.
The pebbles have the benefit of looking good, not hindering with watering or caring for the plants, and keeping the cat at bay.

try to divert the kitties attention. Spray with water, shake a can of pennies, or something like that to get her attention. We use a water spray bottle and it really does the trick usually. We can call their name and just point the bottle and they usually stop whatever they are doing.
