Give him at least 2 acres so he can be happier and run more freely. That one horse per acre is the the legal minimum. So I would say 2 acres and an indoor stall.
I’m pretty sure, don’t quote me if I’m wrong, but it’s still 1 acre. A shetland, is yes obviously smaller but they categorized them together. You could probably get away with 1/2 of an acre without anyone getting in your way. Shetlands are small. Although I’d probably give them a little more room! They’ll be more happy. And a box stall (I’d go with 12×12 cause they’re really nice) is perfectly fine. But standing stalls do work too! And they are much easier to clean. 😉
Sorry if I didn’t really help, I tried. Good Luck!Answer by SweetThing
Please do not listen to IceCool any horse no matter how small needs at least 2 acres. But it depends what county you live in. You can call them and check but I know that where I live you have to have 2 acres for one horse. And I would STRONGLY recommend that you get two ponies. If you only get one it is going to be lonely and depressed and you don’t want that for him/her.
