MomOfTwo: How can I get a deadbeat dad in Bermuda to pay child support owed by a Minnesota judgment?
There’s no reciprocity between Bermuda and MN. Deadbeat dad owes over $ 20,000 and hasn’t made a payment in one year. He’s simply quit paying. I’ve contacted everyone from state child support officers to our government officials. No one knows what to do, therefore it must not be in “their department”. What good is it to order a legal judgment, if there are no teeth to uphold it?

Same way you get blood from a turnip… you can’t.
Harsh, but true.
Answer by gomanyes562You will need to hire a lawyer specializing in international law.
But this may cost more than you would ever recuperate.

My wife can’t even get the money from her ex husband who lives in the US. He owes over $ 70k and he’s only in another state. The guy is simply a dead beat. He gets a job, his wages get attached, we get a check for a whopping $ 70 from the state of California and then he quits he job. A few months later the same thing happens all over again. The guy should be in jail.
Who ever told the person you can’t collect money over state lines is wrong. We live in California and the dead beat dad lives on the other side of the United States and somehow we get a measly check every few months. I’d actually rather the guy be in jail then to get a couple hundred dollars a year that basically has to be taken from him.
Answer by EraserheadThere’s nothing you can do. I live in Ohio, my ex husband moved to Indiana and hasn’t paid a dime in support. He is 5 years behind. The state says they can’t collect ‘over state lines’. I contacted an atty, and they told me the same thing. The orders can’t be enforced if the father doesn’t reside in the same state anymore.

Is he a U.S. citizen? Does he travel using a U.S. passport? New passport regulations that enable a passport to be denied to a person who is delinquent in the payment of their child support obligations have caught up with many deadbeat parents.

If he is a U.S. citizen and is using a passport to travel outside the U.S., you should talk to who ever administers child support law in your jurisdiction and ask them if his passport can be revoked (this might get him back in the U.S. where you would have more luck dealing with him).
Good luck.
