logiesteading: How can I enter a horse riding competition if I dont own a pony myself?
I am really into riding and I was wondering how I would enter a horse riding competition (dressage/cross-country/show jumping) if I don’t own my own pony – is there any way I can do it?
P.S My stables doesn’t loan ponies for the day
Im really serious about entering competitions, so no more time wasters please.

Obviously not, if you don’t have a horse or pony you can’t enter. You need to have a certain bond with a horse or pony before it will even do what it’s meant to in a show, you can’t just randomly enter a competition.
My daughter’s stables do rent, but we have a friend who owns and that’s the one my daughter rides. Maybe you can work out a situation where you could excercise someone else’s horse in exchange for being able to ride it in shows. That’s what we’ve done.Answer by ?

If you are asked what you want for Christmas or your birthday, whichever comes soonest, you could ask for a Pony Camp holiday where you “own” the pony for the week, take care of it, have two riding lessons a day and on the last day there is usually jumping competitions and gymkhana and there might be cross country too if you are big and old enough. It depends on the stables.
Look on Websites, Horse magazines for details of different ones. Make sure they are approved by your national Horse Society.
Answer by JoyYes you can! I loan my Paint Mare out to teens ever Summer for open shows, and even let them keep the Ribbons free. I can’t get over. How selfish some horse owners are!
Try to find some nice and real friends that will let you use a pony for shows, or as in open shows in 4-H, than later on when you can afford your own Horse, than you can try for Dressage.
Have you ever thought about leasing a horse or pony? At the price of hay and feed. Some will even lease for fee, just to have them boarded out.
If you want a horse or pony please adopt one. They are giving away horses left and right in my State, because of the over breeding of non wanted horses.
I wish you the best, and don’t give up!Answer by Chelsea
You absolutely CAN! I took riding lessons 2x a week and showed H/J my whole life and never had my own horse until I was 19. I showed horses that I took lessons on because that’s why I was taking lessons. They assigned me a horse and that’s the horse I rode and showed. My mom 1/2 leased a horse for me once. That was a good deal. I guess you should look at a show barn and find out about taking lessons and showing. They haul the horses and tack and all you should have to do is take your lessons and pay your entry fees. I also exercised horses at one place when I got to a point where I didn’t need the lessons anymore and we traded out for me using a horse to show and ride.Answer by Starstruck Rider…x
Dont listen to anyone who says you can’t!! Of course you can, most stables do rents if not just ask your yards manager – be polite and smile. Explain that you really want to do some competing – say how it would be the best thing ever!
Good Luck x
