They are portrayed as preoccupied with their looks, cell phones, parties sexting, texting, dating, being”sexy” and fashion estas, esp in magazines & t.v. Even the teenage guys are described as “hot” and their clothes & hair are much more important today. 20 yrs ago boys were boys & were not expected to dress all trendy.
As for music videos, it seems they’re always trying to outdo each other by a lot of attention getting behavior, dressing in very short shorts and skimpy tops, facial expressions are very . The girls are wearing designer clothes, stilleto heels and are constantly concerned with whether their clothes or haircolor is right -even the guysl Media constantly focuses on weight loss or gain, trying to push fitness clubs & weight loss pills. It appears they are all trying to copy the rich & famous.
Another form of media is the computer with & the ads to sell anything from diet pills to makeup and haircolor
The newspapers are usually more focused on the actual contributions to society such as teens volunteering in animal shelters and food drives. It really depends on what ‘product’ or image that particuar aspect of media is trying to promote. There is very little emphasis on schoolwork and the importance of making the most of your education. I guess they should be emphasising important of character & personality which you don’t see very often in the media.
Also many times the shows, articles show teens using bad language all the time; even if it’s beeped out, most people know what they’ve said.
