Sgt Carter: How are laws against same sex marriage not considered sexual discrimination?
It seems that any laws discriminating based on sex should be considered discrimination and should be illegal by Federal law. What am I missing?
It seems to me that limiting who I can marry based on sex is sexual discrimination and diminishing of personal freedoms (inalienable rights?).
Should there be laws requiring that I have to marry within my same race?
By the way, sexual discrimination laws apply to more than just the workplace.

Because sex discrimination applies to the workplace; EEOC is Federal law.
I can see your point. The problem is the definition of marriage. If the laws that are on the books define marriage as between a man or a woman, that’s the loophole that those who oppose it are looking for. Eventually, state by state, the law will change.Answer by Eric H
Nothing – that’s the reason they keep getting struck down.Answer by janice h
Marriage is and always has been defined as occurring between a man and a woman. That is the legal definition. Therefore it is not discriminatory to continue with the current law. Laws against discrimination are enforced in the work place not in general. This is also one of those areas that should be left up to the states. We do not need the feds to determine this issue (or many others for that matter).Answer by Kelsey L
I don’t think it is because neither men OR women are allowed to marry the same sex. It would be discrimination if women were allowed to marry each other but men weren’t or vice versa. Since both sexes are denied this, its not sexual discrimination. I do support same-sex marraiges though.Answer by Mismobismo!

I don’t know. I think that everyone no matter what their sexual orientation should be treated as equals.
For the idiot that mentioned marrying a horse that isn’t a HUMAN! There aren’t any rights written into our Consitution for any animals other than HUMANS!
Answer by Brandon CThey are not but it should be. they say it is not discrimination because the law allows both a heterosexual and a homosexual a chance to marry the opposite sex.
but you could say It is a VIOLATION OF RELIGIOUS FREEDOMS . The Government is endorsing the Christian definition of marriage. Which goes against separation of church and state.

in china and Greece it occurred mainly for guidance and was a temporary relationship usually.

If marriage is to be between a man and a woman only that would be an endorsement of religion by government.
Answer by Danniella28I think it’s a violation of civil rights. Not sexual discrimination. Why would you want to limit yourself to just marrying within your race ? Love or lust should have no color.
