mindeloman: Has anyone noticed fewer people say “mow” the grass?
It seems like everyone says, “cut the grass” now. As a kid I never heard anyone say cut the grass. What’s weird is the machine that cuts the grass is still called a lawnmower. Eventually, it may be called a grass cutter. Like when walmart called christmas trees “holiday trees” but that’s a seperate issue.

The “holiday tree” thing isn’t just a separate issue, it’s an entirely different issue altogether.
I think people said “cut the grass” when I was young, and I’m in my 50s–but I think we usually said “mow the lawn.” This could be a regional thing, or, more likely, with the appalling vocabulary skills of the average American, many people may not know what the word “mow” means. It’s also a somewhat older word that doesn’t get used much anymore–at this point, you only hear it related to lawns, or sometimes to a car accident (“The car mowed down three pedestrians.”)Answer by Jake No Chat
Before I munch the carpet, I do like to trim the bushes. Anyway that you say it, it it understood by the great masses of the intelligent society out there. Just like being “bad” is now a good thing.Answer by T
