SRR_lover_Bella’s Mommy:): What kind of gifts did you get at the hospital when the baby was born?
Just need to know what kind of little free things the hospital gives you when you have the baby? And did your friends and family bring you any more gifts at the hospital? If so, what?

The nurse at the hospital give me two diaper bag, a can of formula and a swaddle blankets. My family give my baby some clothes.
Hospitals have gotten really scrimpy with their “give-a-way” bags. There is one for breastfeeding and one for bottle feeding. The breastfeeding one had some creams, some coupons from Medela, breast pads, and a guide. That was all of the free things we got. In the newborn cart you can take the sucker thing (for the nose) and the diapers. They don’t have wipes there (bring your own!). They put like ten diapers a day in the cart and you can take what is left at the end of the day (so they will refill it), but we actually found that since we didn’t take them out at the end of the day, before we left they just gave us a whole pack 🙂 It was nice of them.
When we had our son, we got something from each of his grandma’s…flowers from one with a balloon. And then a few outfits and FOOD (for us) from the other (my mom). It was nice though because we had other people visit afterward, instead of the hospital, so we didn’t have to carry home a ton of stuff.

I never stayed in hospital longer then 24 hours with either of my sons, but the people who visited me in hospital bought flowers, clothes for the baby, teddy bears and cards. My fiance bought me a DSi cos I love playing games, it wasn’t exactly a traditional gift you would get the mother of your first child, but it was well thought out and I loved it!!Answer by Schmoe
i’m in ontario canada (i assume you get different stuff in the States – especially since you pay to be there) and we didn’t officially get anything from the hospital.
we had to provide our own diapers (they used washcloths for wipes so we didn’t need to supply those at all). there were little gowns for baby to wear (cloth that were open backed – sort of like a hospital gown actually) and blankets we could use (pink on one side an blue on the other and just big enough to swaddle a newborn). there was a hosptial grade breast pump but we had to buy our own 25$ kit to use (the part with the suction cup and hoses and bottle) with it.
the only thing we came away with was a knitted baby hat (they had a real hard time finding one to fit my baby’s massive head lol), a plastic dollar store tub (like a ‘dishtub’) that they had used to bathe her in (i was told they just throw them out afterwards anyway), whatever was left in the vaseline tube they had used on her bum, two disposable bottles and nipples (i was breastfeeding but my milk had JUST come in the day we left so they gave me a couple of bottles in case i needed them that day before i could get the hubby to buy more) and the squeeze bottle i was given to spray water at my ‘area’ after using the washroom.
as for friends and family…my mom brought me 3 cute sleepers for baby so i could bring her home in something pretty. my dad brought me some candy and chocolate (since i wasn’t allowed any while pregnant due to gestational diabetes) and he and his girlfriend brought baby a really nice musical bunny for baby. the only other visitors i had were my brother and one of my best friends and her boyfriend and my ex-bf (he’s also one of my best friends) and his girlfriend. my brother didn’t bring anything – well, actually, he brought my mom (she doesn’t have a car and lives in a different city than i do). my one friend brought baby a sophie la giraffe toy and my ex and his girlfriend brought me some cookies from niagara falls.
we did get more stuff from people when i got home. since baby was born december 2nd, a lot of people just waited and gave us stuff for her when they saw us at christmas. we got lots of clothes (mostly for 3 months up to 9 months old) and a couple of small stuffed toys and 2 four packs of receiving blankets. oh and two people bought us a pack of diapers since they didn’t know us well (friends of our parents, etc) or know the sex of the baby.
if you want some free stuff, make sure you sign up for huggies.com and heinz.com and pampers.com and similac.com and any of the other sites for babies that offer free samples. they all have different stuff they offer but we got diapers (usually only 2 or 3 in a pack as a sample but baby is 6 months now and we’re still getting samples of the next size as she grows), full cans of formula, sample packs of formula, a diaper bag knapsack, growth charts, breast pads (for when you leak milk), premixed formula in jars that all you have to do is add a clean nipple and ring (great for emergencies or when you have to leave baby with dad or a relative on short notice), samples of baby cereal (now that baby is older) and lots of samples of baby bum cream.
