I’m a Christian and I don’t think gambling is a sin unless you let your family go hungry for gambling and it becomes an addiction. But you have opened a can of worms. The turbo-Christians will blast you with scriptures that they think say gambling is a sin.
Gambling has become widely accepted today—but almost every week I get at least one e-mail from someone whose life has been torn apart by gambling. Like alcohol or drugs, gambling can become a strong and compelling addiction for some people—and when it does, it inevitably brings destruction and sorrow in its path.
Why is this? One reason is because gambling appeals to one of our most powerful and destructive drives: greed. The Bible says greed is a sin and warns us to be on guard against it. Jesus said, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions” (Luke 12:15).
If you are reading this and you have become ensnared by gambling or you know someone who has, don’t ignore it or hope it will just go away—for it won’t. Instead, admit your problem and then get help for it. Begin by giving yourself to Christ and asking Him to come into your life. Then ask Him to lead you to others who can help you turn your back on gambling.

There is nothing that says “you shall not gamble”……>
There certainly are better things you can do with your money.
The other issue is when the lost see you doing these things, they will call you a hypocrite……..>
I personally dont have an issue if you just want an evening of entertainment on occasions. I certainly believe that this money should be from your surplus not taking from your bills, food, or even your tithes……>
It can be an addictive thing similar to alcohol…….If you want a glass of wine with dinner or maybe a beer while you watch the game…..Im ok with that. But scripture is clear and says to be sober minded at all times and that drunkenness is a sin…….Well, you cant be tempted to have 7 or 8 drinks if you dont take that first one…….>
I think you should simply listen to your conscience on this and pray for guidance………>
Answer by MichaelWhile there are no direct verses that declare gambling a sin, there are a few which speak on the subject. For instance, the Bible says that it is better to earn your money with hard work, rather than quick gain. It also says that the love of money is the root of all evil.
Basically it comes down to your reasons and thoughts behind it. If these are sinful, then your actions that follow will be sinful. Tread carefully.
Answer by skepsisIt’s very simple: When Jesus was crucified, the soldiers gambled for his clothes. Now, crucifying Jesus is BAD. Ergo, gambling is BAD (especially if it’s done for clothing). Hooray for Bible logic!Answer by hasse_john
Basically, you can’t live without gambling. You either buy life insurance, and gamble you will die soon, or you choose not to , and gamble you will live a long time. There is a proverb that says that a person who is in a hurry to gain wealth will not be without sin. (or something like that)Answer by cheesphht
You won’t find it in those words but being a fool is certainly not the will of God. If you don’t know the outcome of your money then you would be a fool to risk it on just plain odds. If you go to a casino then how much do you give to your local church?
A Casino is rigged to take your money – a church is there to give it to in faith. God wants to see how much faith you have in His casino – a winner every time, the only catch is that you can’t see the rewards right now except the promises that are in there about Him multiplying your giving.
Lu 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
One is by faith and the other is just giving your money away.
Of course there are different categories of gambling but Casino’s just take your money and believe me, if you’re too good at say … horses and you win too much they will kindly ask you to leave and not come back because they’re not there for you – they’re there for the sucker.
