English Rose (due 2nd May): Flash drive is connected, but it’s not showing up in “My Computer”?
I have a flash drive that works fine on my 2 laptops at home, and also on my colleague’s computer at work. But when I plug it into MY work computer, the little green arrow above the grey box icon comes up on the right hand corner of my taskbar (that shows all of the programs currently running). I hover over it and it gives me the option to “safely remove hardware”. So it’s recognised as being linked to the PC.
BUT when I go into “My Computer”, it isn’t showing up at all!
When I bought the flash drive there was a software installed on it, which didn’t respond with our work computers, so I un-installed it via my laptop a couple of weeks ago. It’s been working fine on my colleague’s work computer since then, but it just won’t let me access it with MY work computer.
Is there anything I can do, or any other way I can access the flash drive via MY computer? It’s a bit pointless to have a flash drive if it’s not doing it’s job…
I realise I can go to my colleague’s computer to access the information, but I shouldn’t HAVE to do this. If it works on one PC, why not the other?
All the PCs at work are identically formatted, so there shouldn’t be a difference.
I also have an identical flash drive (same brand, same model), and that works fine on my PC. The one that works never came with the software installed on it though. Could there have been a problem in the un-installing process on the problem drive?
The drive is a CRUZER MICRO 4GB, if that’s any help.

This problem may occur if you have a Mapped Network Drive…
If you have, try changing the drive letter of the USB Drive from Device Manager OR try changing the drive letter of the Mapped Network Drive.
Answer by shaily_reading_ukHi there!!
The best thing to do is to download the driver for the flash card from the Internet. Search for the name of the company and they will have the driver for you.
Then Go to Control Panel and Add New Hardware Device. It will ask you for the driver location.
Provide the driver location and you are ready to go.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Shaily
PS: You will require Adminsitative Rights to do this. Some companies do not allow to install new drivers by the employees. Please call IT Admin guy for that.
Answer by some random bunnyit’s probably the driver. here are steps to reisntall the driver…
– put the drive in.
– press ctrl+pause/break (or go to System in control panel another way)
– In one of the tabs you will find “device manager” or “hardware…”
– find the drive (if you can’t identify it, take it out and put it back in again with refreshing the list you should see one of the items disapear and reappear. that’s the item to select)
– delete/remove/uninstall it from the list
– unplug the stick
– plug it back in (the default drivers should reinstall and it should work as if it’s a new device)
hope i’ve helped =)
