I use a product called Bepanthen. Its actually a nappy rash cream, but I’ve used it on my last few…was my tattooists suggestion, and they have healed very well and kept the colour nicely.

the best thing (and cheapest) is bepanthen in my experience, it’s a nappy rash cream which is a bit wierd , but it’s the most highly recommended cream for tattoos

Hi
I used bepanthen ointment after I got my first tatt it was a horrible experience for me, the tatt healed just fine but I had hellish itching for days and it took a long time to heal.
I switched to something called lucas’ pawpaw ointment for my next tatt and have never looked back it was the best thing I have done. It helps the tatt heal quickly and as a unexpected bonus I had no urge to scratch because I had no itching at all.My tatt guy sells it in his shop now.
I clean my tatt 4 hours after getting it with warm water and unscented soap. I pat it dry then add the smallest amount of ointment I can to cover it. You don’t want to over moisturise, the tatt needs to breathe to heal.
I clean (wash dry moisturise) my tatt four times a day and b4 bed I cover it after cleaning with paper towel and cling/plastic wrap because the tatt will weep for a few days and this protects your clothes and bedding.
I use the pawpaw ointment until it finishes peeling then switch to a non scented moisturiser for a few weeks 3 times a day. Then at least once a week.
Keep your tatt out of the sun no pools or sea water for a few eeks at least.Don’t pick at the tatt when it starts to peel.

I have tried Tattoo Goo and Tattoo Lube – personally, I didn’t like them. It basically comes down to this – we have entered the age of excessive variety. For example, there are so many different cleaning products out there now made with so many different chemicals that you could blow up your house with them all – honestly, it’s enough to make your head spin and to this day there is nothing that really works better than good old baking soda and vinegar. I’ve come to pretty much the same conclusion about aftercare. The goal is to keep your new tattoo clean, protected from bacteria and moist. And a healed tattoo needs to be protected from the sun. Soap will keep it clean, A&D ointment will keep it protected, lotion will keep it moist and any high SPF sunblock will keep it protected from UV rays. Anything beyond that is just fluff – you can get them if you prefer the way they feel or smell, but your results are going to be the same in the end.
