In later life I want to become an actress, so at college I am taking Film studies and have joined a dram group. But I need another career besides that as the acting industry involves alot of waiting around for roles etc so I am taking psychology and media as well at college but the problem is I don’t know what other career I could do while waiting for my acting one to pick up. Plus I just got my GCSE results and I got A’s, there is no other careers that appeal to me???

Sit down and answer these questions.
What kind of hobbies do I like to do?
What jobs do I think would hold an interest for me?
Do any of these job provide flexiblity for my true career love?
Do any of these jobs potentially increase my skills or exposure needed for my true career job?
What unique skills do I have that an employer would be interested in?

Let me give you an example, first, I think everyone sometime in their college career is a phychology major. There are not alot of jobs our there that ask for a degree in phychology. You do however have a marketable skill if you can write and enjoy it. Writing has a greater potential of having some freedom when it comes to schedules and being able to run off to an audition as well. I would then begin looking for a writing position some how related to the acting business. Maybe working as an assistant to a talent agent, or reviewing plays and movies for a paper, or working at a theatre or a studio. Surround yourself with people in the industry. You will not be discovered auditing tax returns in an IRS office somewhere, but you never know if you might bumb into when you work in the industry.

There’s got to be careers that would appeal to you while your in college and waiting for a role. I know quite a few different things, that most people haven’t heard of. The ones that are involved love it! I know some actress’s that are involved in one business as well as a few actors. Even while they are on set and in the middle of making a movie. Honey try going to www.projectcareer.com, they have a special test you can take that will help you ascertain what it is that would be a suitable career for you. I tried it and got just what I am in Law Enforcement. Try The Princeton Review Quiz also. Hope this helps. Waiting tables is never fun but in a pinch it will do.
