patient: can i get my credit score for free?
i know i can get my free reports once a year, but is there a way to get my credit “score” without paying for it?

No sorry – unless a lender gives it to you at the time you apply for a loan. The credit score is a proprietary system and they are allowed to charge for it.
The last time I ran mine at www.annualcreditreport.com (the free site) think think the score cost me $ 7 to get. It may have gone up since then.
Answer by Howard LYou need to sign up for a free 30 day trial from one of the many companies offering credit monitoring services or credit reports. You do need to give them a credit card number but if you cancel before the trial period is over they will not charge you. I have done it several times without any problem. There seem to be enough companies giving free trials that I could probably get free scores for the next 50 years.Just cancel within the trial period. I’ve linked a couple. There are a lot more of them.
