etmoore108: Will your credit score rise if you get a credit card?
I have a fair credit score and want to get a credit card with “good credit score” perks. How long will I have to hold a credit card with zero balance before it helps my credit?

New credit is 15% of your fico score.
It will ding that part for 6 months – considered new credit.
Go to bankrate.com
find a card with cash back rewards – like 1% cash back.
And enjoy using credit cards – without letting them use you.
Never pay a penny interest
Any time during the month that you are using more than 30% of your available credit your score will go down slightly.
So even if you pay in full each month – keep that number in mind.

Any card that is promoted as having “‘good credit score’ perks” is a scam.
Any credit card that is paid on time, every time, will help your score. It begins to do so as soon as the credit reporting agencies process reports from the card issuer that you have the account and are not late or over your limit. However, it may not help enough for you to notice.
Answer by horse fDo not close the card cause it lower you available credit line. You also can use this service to pre-estimate future scores for different scenarios of credit card payments. – freecreditreport.deep-ice.com
