Sad Girl: Will my work know I looked at a Boob Picture? IT experts?
Before you answer, let me give you some more background.
I have worked for a bank for 2 years. Daily, I go to a website called dlisted.com, which is hollywood gossip etc. It contains lots of curse words and bad pictures, but always cencsored. I have never been talked to about this website, and for some reason is not blocked like myspace is.
To my knowledge, there is one IT guy who works there and he is pretty busy with other things normally. He seems pretty cool.
So today I was on a plastic surgery website, I am helping my friend find a good surgeon for her boob job LOL. I clicked on “breast implants” and it just opened up to a graphic page showing before and after pics of naked boobs. I IMMEDIATELY exited the browser window.
Ever since, I have started feeling worried my work will find out and let me go.
IT experts, does my work just know what pages I go to? Or can they see the exact images of the pages? What are my chances of getting in trouble?
Thanks, I am a worry wart 🙂

Answer by Hi, Billy Mays here!
There’s nothing to worry about. Sleep tight.
you should have cleaned out your browser history after this little incident. I guess now you just wait and see.Answer by colanth
1) It’s possible that your network keeps a record of every single site you visit.
2) Pictures of breasts on breast implant sites aren’t something sane people (I’m talking about bosses) get upset over.

Second it depends on your work.
The technology exists for your employer to monitor every single webpage you look at, every single image your browser displays, every single blog entry you view or post from work, the contents of every email you send and to whom it was sent, as well as any emails you receive while at work. and if you log into any webmail account or website that does not use a secure log in then they already know your username and password. If you use the same password at other websites then they can probably log in as you and see everything you’ve ever done online any time they wanted.
Realistically though unless you work for a bunch of control freaks they won’t bother. Its easy to track and log your activities but it would be very labor intensive (and expen$ ive) for the one IT guy to check every single persons internet history every day.
Typically the only reason they might audit your internet useage would be if your manager requests it (maybe he suspects you’re goofing off at work), you use an abnormal amount of bandwidth (watching youtube all day or playing streaming radio), or an automated tool flags your computer use as suspicious (such as if you get a virus and it starts spamming people from your email).
If no one has said anything to you yet don’t worry about it. try to avoid things like that in the future obviously but don’t worry about it.
and don’t worry about the password stealing thing. I wasn’t lieing when I said it, but it would take longer and cost more $ $ than the value of the information they would gain. Also it would probably be seen as unethical and companies try to avoid that.
