Texas Patriot: Why is the Obama administration proposing to spend less on health care for the elderly?
The Obama administration is proposing to keep tabs on all spending on elderly patients. Hospitals that spend less on them would be rewarded while hospitals that spend more would be penalized. Sounds like rationing to me. Why is the Obama administration proposing to spend less on health care for the elderly?

Not true. Yours is an obvious distortion of President Obama’s proposal. Why can’t you cons at least try to be honest?
President Obama’s proposal to address the rising cost of Medicare would be to have the Independent Payment Advisory Board consider cost controls if Medicare spending rises faster than the annual growth of the US gross domestic product, plus 1 percent.
The board is prohibited from making recommendations that would ration health-care procedures, increase taxes, change Medicare benefits, or make the program more expensive for beneficiaries, according to an analysis of the current law by the Kaiser Family Foundation.
Answer by Kiran CYou misunderstand what is happening. The cuts will not reduce the quality of care. “under the ACA, Medicare is phasing out $ 132 billion in overpayments to Medicare Advantage insurers over a period of ten years; spurring hospitals and nursing homes to become more efficient by trimming annual increases in Medicare reimbursements by 1%, or $ 196 billion, cutting payments to hospitals with the highest rates of medical errors and infections by another 1%, and refusing to pay for preventable readmissions..” President Obama is penalizing hospitals that do not measure up. Hospitals can get the 1% by just preventing more deaths. It is the opposite of a death panel. Also, Medicare Advantage is example of how the private insurance companies cannot deliver the same or better level of care as traditional Medicare at the same price or lower price.

Wait a minute. They are not proposing to spend less, they are proposing to start paying attention to what is spent.
One issue that we have is that hospitals rush patients out too quickly and they end up returning and costing even more than if they had just stayed in another day or two. Hospitals like to free up beds for insurance company patients that will pay more so medicare patients get rushed out.
Everyone is complaining about spending. Republicans are ready to just cut, Obama’s approach is to take the time to see how money is being spent and if there are practices that could be implemented to keep spending down.
The goal is to identify and reward those doctors and hospitals who keep costs down by decreasing the number of patients that are re-admitted shortly after being released. It’s about making sure hospitals and doctors get it right the first time.
Republicans and right wingers are in no position to criticize anyone about treatment of the elderly. They are ready to cut them off and hand them a coupon.
