Jack P: Why is the color blue so prevalent in computing?
Blue seems to be a common color in the computing world. Shades of blue are very common in Operating Systems and programs. Is there a reason to this? Is there some psychological purpose to having so much blue? Not that I’m complaining of course…

Blue is one of the primary colors of light, alongside green and red (the primary colors of pigment are yellow, blue and red – you probably learned about them in kindergarten)
Back in the day, computers were far less capable of making many colors than they are now. I would imagine blue would be chosen due to it’s ease of readability, as opposed to red or green.
To my knowledge there is no real “psychological” purpose, though colors do have effects on people’s moods to a limited extent.
Answer by macstu23There may well be some psychology behind it, since it is a calming colour, and easy on the eye, unlike red, but I think it’s mostly because shades of blue are easiest to see against white or light coloured backgrounds.Answer by Tal E
Well, it’s a easy shade yet it catches your eye.(:

Besides white and black the color blue is the only color my husband can see. He is totally color blind. It’s probably the only color everyone can tolerate for long periods of time.
