Makani: Ideas for a research paper in computing history?
I’m supposed to write a 15 page research paper on some aspect of the history of computing, but I am having a hard time finding a topic. Can someone just throw some ideas at me? It would make it a lot easier. Jut need something I can get 15 pages out of. I would appreciate it.

I myself recently did a paper like this, and the best subject I found was the history of the Internet. There are entire web pages on this subject, and I think you’ll find it a very good topic for a paper.
The obvious is to write it on the history of the Internet. The teacher will be sick of that subject I am sure.
How about:
1) The advent of the mouse and its impact on computing.
2) CPU speeds through the years, 33 Mhz to present.
3) BBS’es (bulletin board services), the predecessor to the world wide web (aka internet).
4) Peter Norton, rock star.
5) Why webTV failed miserably.
6) The history of hard disk drives.
7) Floppy disks from start to finish.
8) Gates and Wozniack, the Phoenix days.
9) The demise of personal computer support as we knew it.
