Tay: Why is it important to do maths and does it help to get into all uni courses?
I’m contemplating whether or not to do maths in yr 11 or 12, if I was to I would only do general however where does it get you? and if I was possibly planning to do say an International studies course at Uni, would it be required? What courses require it? Why is it so important? Do I need to do it? I just don’t see how it’s essential!

Ah, the famous question. Why do I need math? If you want a college degree of any kind, you will be required to take at least on college level math class. It is VITALLY important though I do understand why you question it.
No matter where you want to go in your future career, math will help you get there. Well, not math itself, just the transcript that shows all the math you took.
It’s important for the same reason Psychology and History, and Political Science, and Humanities, and English, and Literature, and Biology, and all the rest are important. That college degree signifies to potential employers that you are a well-rounded and well-educated person.
One thing you should note especially about math and science. A person who has a degree in either math or science is in such great demand that you can practically write your own paycheck. We’re talking BIG money.
I hope you decide that it’s worth the extra effort to take math in your 11th and 12th year to get you better prepared for college. Good luck.
