Tree of Jesse: Why is fashion (pret-a-porter/haute couture) divided into seasons?
When did this start? Is it still followed by major designers? Any and all info appreciated. No silly answers.

I’m not sure when it started, but I’m pretty sure that the start of each season usually coincides with every season’s ‘Fashion Week’, where designers display their new looks. it is, in fact, still followed by many major designers. My personal favorite is the Marc Jacobs Spring ’08 collection which was released early. I’m sadly not too fond of his Fall/Winter ’07 collection, though. Gucci, Prada, Dior, Chanel, and other’s do this as well.
