Serena G: Why do your breasts hurt the week before your menstrual cycle when you estrogen is so low?
It doesn’t make sense. Why do your breasts hurt the week before your period when your progesterone is high and your estrogen is low? I thought estrogen caused PMS symptoms.
What can you take for specifically the breasts or just in general that’s not medication?

First of all, not everyone experiences this, and not everyone experiences PMS.
It’s the long delay (many months) of a lack of estrogen that generally causes PMS symptoms.
You did not say how old you are, so assuming you are young, your mammary glands in your breasts may be developing. The growth spurt stimulated by sleep/GH and estrogen is what causes the
sensitivity.
You should be feeling it 2 weeks before uterine bleeding, not 1 week, though it’s not unusual to be that delayed.
